On April 2nd 2024, the Tropicana casino/hotel in Las Vegas closed it's doors. It's making way for a baseball stadium to be built there now that Vegas is becoming a sports town. The Oakland As are moving here, following the Raiders move from Oakland as well. And the Vegas Golden Knights and Las Vegas Aces are more professional teams who now call Sin City their home! So, before it's demolished, I visited one last time. I haven't really visited in years, but as a kid, I do have fond memories of this place. I remember back in the 80s when it transformed into the "Island of Las Vegas", becoming the first casino that I can recall, with a really fancy swimming pool area with lots of palm trees, tropical birds, a water slide, and even swim-up blackjack! Back in the day, long before the mega-resorts arrived, this was one of the fancier resorts in town. It used to anchor the south end of the Strip along with the Hacienda a little further back. I clearly remember exploring the casino/hotel and sitting up in the Mezzanine area, watching my dad play blackjack in the table games that sat under a famous arched stained-glass ceiling. While alot of the place was old and run-down, many of the paths and areas I visited as a kid were still there! Farewell to another old Vegas casino. Glad I got to visit one last time and even happier that I left on a winning note!
