Annie's Slot Canyon Trail in Solana Beach, California, is a unique trail that takes you through a narrow canyon path with high walls. Features of Annie's Slot Canyon Trail: Most of the trail is on a relatively flat dirt path, in both shade and sun. You get great views of the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Preserve along the way. The end of the trail leads you into a canyon with high walls. Then you get to the slot canyon part that is extremely narrow and one-way, so once you start, there's no turning back. Some parts of the path get so narrow that you need to walk sideways to fit through. It then ends in a series of metal ladders you need to climb up to get to the top of the canyon. Upon reaching the end you get great high scenic views of the canyon you were just in, the lagoon, and the 5 freeway. From there, you take switchbacks that gradually take you back down to the bottom. Where is the Annie's Slot Canyon Trail Located: Located a bit north of San Diego in Solana Beach, the trail is just a few minutes off the 5 freeway. There are multiple trailheads that meet at the slot canyon. The 2 primary ones are The Solana Hills Trail which starts on the east end, and the Gemma Parks Interpretive Trail on the west end. Both are roughly the same distance to Annie’s Slot Canyon. Annie’s Canyon Trail is a great hike for families, with a unique slot canyon and ladders that adults and kids will love.
